Something I hear a lot about from people like my mum, grandma, and even friends of my mum and dad is how home economics and cooking classes were almost pretty much compulsory when they were in school and it was something all kids were taught in school.

When I went to school, cooking classes were something that was available but it was called Food Technology and that was an option for us to choose when it came to our final year exams in school, it was never compulsory.

Now though, it seems things such as home economics and even cooking classes are not compulsory or even a thing for kids in school now which is quite worrying as it is something that I feel is essential and should be taught in schools.

Do you feel home economics or even cooking classes should be made compulsory in school?

There's a sexist stereotype that it's for females, but, honestly, it's an incredibly useful class, especially cause it way improves the quality of life as in good tasting food and food that is affordable. Now, myself, I never took it, but I regret it. I simply have not been very good at cooking for much of my life.

Oh, should it be required? I don't think so, but it should be encouraged.

It was Home Economics when I was in grade school and high school. In grade school we were taught on the basics. In high school, we enjoyed making our own smoked fish dish.

Currently, for Senior high school, they can choose their strands. If they want to pursue a strand related to cooking or home economics, at least they already have basic knowledge.

Being said, I agree with adding this as a compulsory classes in school.

I completely agree with this, I think it should be made compulsory in schools. These days we have so many children or should I say Gen Z that do not even know how to cook even the most simplest of food. These children will grow up to become something else in the future.
Exactly. They are more focused on their gadgets nowadays. But I am glad that my niece is doing her homework in this discipline. Last time she prepared salad as their activity in her grade 7 class.
