While social media may not be the primary cause of depression and mental health concerns, it is still indispensable to limit its usage. It can lead to negative comparisons, cyberbullying, and disturbed sleep. The impact of social media differs, and if you have existing mental health issues, make sure to seek advice from a mental health professional. In some ways, i would say social media has contributed in making most people, especially the young adults fall into depression, especially when they see the amount of fake life people live on social media.
Social media can cause you stress, anxiety and depression, especially if you are too much concerned with what you are sharing, consume negative news. or follow FOMO culture. However, social media is not the major cause of depression.
I believe to a large extent Social media does. It helps to creates a distorted reality that doesn't reflect the full range of human experience. This does make people feel like we're not good enough. Even studies have shown that heavy social media use is associated with increased levels of anxiety and depression
I have seen lots of people that have allowed themselves to be pressured because of social media. They see curated lifestyles, they want to live same. And when they can't afford it, they fall into depression. I have stayed off social media for my own mental health's sake.
