How to root smartphone?

Have you ever rooted your smartphone? What are the benefits of rooting your smartphone?

I have, gives you complete control of the phone which you can install any phone OS and stuff you want on it. Though phones are more open these days than they used to be, so I don't bother with it anymore.

Does rooting your smartphone makes it impossible for your device to be tracked or spied on in any way? The whole process is still a little bit confusing for me.

I have attempted to root my smartphone but it doesn't always work for me. Maybe, I would have to take it to a phone software technician to help me root it.
