Insurers warn Biden's new electric vehicle proposal will increase premiums as batteries cannot be repaired

Jason Hayes, Michigan's Mackinac Center's director of energy and environmental policy, says EV batteries cannot be repaired, leading to higher insurance premiums.

"First President Biden came for our gas stoves," Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee ranking member John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital. "Now he wants to ban the cars we drive."
"His misguided policies are hurting American families while helping China," he continued. "The president’s disastrous energy transition is making us more reliant on our enemies while driving up prices for Americans. The ‘electrification of everything’ is not a solution. It’s a road to higher prices and fewer choices."
The tailpipe emissions rules will impact car model years 2027 through 2032. The regulations require automakers to ensure a massive 56% greenhouse gas emissions reduction in 2032 vehicles compared to 2026 models, likely forcing companies to produce electric alternatives more rapidly.

According to the White House, if the regulations are finalized, a staggering 67% of new sedan, crossover, SUV and light truck purchases could be electric by 2032, the White House projected. In addition, up to 50% of bus and garbage trucks, 35% of short-haul freight tractor and 25% of long-haul freight tractor purchases could be electric in less than a decade.

EPA Administrator Michael Regan said the regulations were the most ambitious pollution standards ever for cars and trucks. He added that the rules would secure "critical reductions in dangerous air and climate pollution."
"These misguided emissions standards were made without considering the supply chain challenges American automakers are still facing, the lack of sufficiently operational electric vehicle charging infrastructure, or the fact that it takes nearly a decade to permit a mine to extract the minerals needed to make electric vehicles, forcing businesses to look to China for these raw materials," she continued.

"They also did not consider that the average price of an electric vehicle was roughly $65,000 last year, more than the household income of 46% of American families," Capito added.
"This deeply flawed proposal is a major step toward a ban on the vehicles Americans rely on," American Petroleum Institute President and CEO Mike Sommers said in a statement. "As proposed, this rule will hurt consumers with higher costs and greater reliance on unstable foreign supply chains."
I only took bits from the story.

Going as fast as they want with this, isn't going to help. Car makers force to rush new cars and they will make errors building and designing them. Getting rid of junk batteries could turn into a nightmare.

Thanks for sharing! :)
I doubt this will happen, in practice. Most probable, the timeline will be delayed, just as none of the previous COP targets have been met.
It's all just words to impress. As usual. :p

There is always a saying that goes hurry hurry has no blessings. Therefore when dealing with crucial issues like this there must be laid down procedures and policies that must be followed with alot of care to guarantee the success for a long term solution of the problem.

Easy to say, hard to do, unfortunately :(

Of course yes my friend. It has been like that since the world ever started

That is so true.
Biden have always been clueless to me since he took office. This his recent move shows he definitely doesn't know what he's doing half the time. I can't just wait for the next election to kick off already.

Who do you support then?

I've been writing about the push for EV's for a couple of years now. In my worldview, it's always best to have a balance in your use of natural resources. Each country has a bounty of minerals, gas and oil to trade. Some countries have more minerals such as lithium like China and Russia rather then the US. Where are we going to get our minerals to build batteries if we are at war? Where are we going to store these old batteries? Have people really looked into the cost of buying new batteries for their cars? Are they prepared for that expense? What about EV charging stations? Have you seen any? Then there's the power grid that isn't stable enough to handle 100% EV use.

I've seen some EV chargers on the streets in London. Of course there's more to be done, as I don't see them as frequently as petrol stations.
Some have it outside their house though, which is great and convenient. We'll see what happens :D

Pity our aged leader and many others can't see the issues with electric cars. I believe Japan has some kind of hydropower car in the works or is using it that would be a lot better off.

The major issue being the battery, eventually they won't be made, making that model car a paper weight and what do we do with all the old batteries?

I have always been a Trump fan irrespective of how he usually talks too much, he knows how to run a country. He had the best interest of America at heart. I'll choose him any day over Biden.
I will not get an electric car till our infrastructure can support it and that maintaining it is no different than a gas car.
I have the same disposition on electric cars too. As much as I love the Telsa Cybertruck, I wouldn't go for it even if I had the money now until our infrastructure can support it completely.
