Penalty for Drinking and Driving

Is the penalty too much? Is it too little? Is it about right? What are your reasons? Have you ever ran into trouble with the law over this stuff?

I really feel like anyone who does this should lose their license for a year, drive home the fact they should never do it.

I think they have it pretty much right. Although I think sometimes a prison sentence for a DUI is non productive and usually results in more crime

I have always said that the penalties for someone who drinks and drives and causes any issues or even gets caught is too lenient and I feel they should increase the penalty for those who choose to drink and drive.

Losing their license for a year and then losing it for good after reoffending is something I would like to see in place.

I have heard at least one story of someone crippled for life, someone who was a child at the time, so I feel no pity for drunk drivers. Anyhow, it's really funny to see the pity parties these people give for themselves. I mean, do I really care? I think some people believe they have special rights.

The penalty for drinking and driving should be heavy. I don't care about what anyone is going to say as far as it involves putting your life and the lives of others at risk.

Wanting punishment for drunk drivers isn't political correctness or overreach. However, though, everyone is only human and there is mercy somewhat for them. I suppose it's enough mercy, but it shouldn't be more.

In my home country, there is a zero tolerance for drunk driving. Accidents caused by drunk driving where someone dies is treated as murder. And murderer can go to jail for 20 years. We do not have capital punishment here.

Just a six months jail term for drinking and driving is actually very small. We still have repeat offenders and it is an indication that it is not working. It should be up to 18 months imprisonment.
