Pit bulls are one of the dogs that many people say they would like to see banned because they are vicious dogs and should not be kept as pets.

I am a firm believer that no dog should be put down due to their breed and I also believe that a dog with the right owners no matter the breed can be dogs that do not cause harm to others without any given reason.

I don't believe that pit bulls should be banned at all and I do believe these dogs can be good dogs to keep as a pet if they are brought up right.

Do you believe pit bulls are a breed of dog that should be banned?

The question is how can assessments be conducted regularly to ensure dog owners are ensuring the correct training ?
I feel like the laws are very reactive, in that dog owners are only penalised after an attack has already happened!
This is very true. Not enough is done to ensure that dogs go to a home where they will be taken care of and trained and brought up to not be vicious dogs and that does need to be changed.

Just down the road from me, we have two families living in one six-bedroom house and they have two dogs, rottweilers, and every time you walk past their gate these dogs launch at the game and bark and growl in anger. It happened just today when were not even anywhere near the gate, one of the dogs slammed into the big wooden gate they have at full force and started barking and growling.

That to me shows that they do not train their dogs to not do that and their dogs believe that whenever someone is near their gate they should react even if they are not doing anything.

No animal should be banned just because of the breed. Breeds of dogs like Pitbull, Doberman, German Shepherd etc are aggressive due to their genetics. But their aggressive nature finds them suitable for security jobs.
They can be trained well. It's the onus on the owners to make sure that they avoid everything that triggers the aggression. They should avoid taking them to places and people where it might not be appropriate to have an aggressive dog.

I am a dog lover of all breeds! I don't believe pit bulls should be banned. The way a dog is raised or trained, as well as its genetics, influence its behavior. Why don't they pay close attention to good pit bull training rather than the breed? Some breeds can be quite aggressive, too, but if they are nurtured in a caring environment and properly trained, their demeanor becomes calm, social, and affectionate.
