Self-service in stores seems to becoming more popular as the years go by. Stores that I never used to see self-service in now have self-service and it got me thinking if one day, self-service will be something that takes over cashier jobs.

Already in places that have self-service, you tend to not have any cashiers open unless it is really busy but if self-service were to be expanded, it could change a lot in terms of needing cashiers as we do now.

Do you feel self-service will take over cashier jobs?

Walmart has it and they have a ton of crime going on at the self checkout.
It's the same for the local stores near me that use self-service. It's not so much the crime being committed at the self-service but instead, it's to distract the staff and security of the store so their friend can make a run for it with a ton of expensive meat and other products. This is where I feel maybe more security should be brought in for that said reason.
I think it will. For now we have the vending machine that already accepting cash mostly coins. We also have the milk, and other liquid products that have dispensers. These are actually self service tools and equipment and they also accept cash.
At the moment there are only a few places in my country that have the dispensers but we have had the vending machines for years now. In a sense vending machines have been doing the work of cashiers for years, it's just now we are seeing more things brought in that take the job away from someone and leave it to a machine instead.
