Yes,but only it would not interfere with their studies. Children need to know about finance and to generate it especially for those that have come of age. You can make money during your spare time.
In a lot of places a job afterschool keeps kids out of trouble. Well, I know Michael Jackson's dad was abusive, but he did have a point by making that statement. In fact, the Jackson 5 working after school and staying out of trouble was proof.
One of the most deadly mistakes I made in life growing up was the idea that I want to focus on my studies. I actually did and I made some good grades. I never thought it wise to get something doing at that stage in life. My parents didn't even allow. Most of my classmates who didn't really do well in class had something doing. As at now, they are the ones doing financially better than us who read books and had good grade.
My kids would start working and earning money at age 10.
Allowing your child to get an after school job would prepare that child's mind for financial responsibility as the child grows up. It should not be a really cumbersome job like that but the child must learn the importance of Money and how it is earned. It is something I advocate for within control.
Yes, they need to start earning money and getting their foot forward into the world. It doesn't have to be an actual job, but side stuff that can be done around the neighborhood or for people you know.
