I'm guessing (not stated in the article) "the fans" are not from the US, but from the Philippines. Anyway, racism outside the west isn't going to be criticized in the west. For instance, there are no big stories on black ESL teachers in South Korea who can't get hired due to race (outside of some ESL forums).
