How do you see making your salary and earnings known to the members of your family?

For me I really don't have any problems for disclosing the information about how much is my salary, or how much I do earn in my Businesses and offline sites.
However there are people who tend to keep that information as a deep secret to themselves. What do you think?

When it comes to letting my family know how much I earn or what my salary is, I do not mind telling the majority of my family but one of my brothers I do tend to keep it from as he has a habit of running to people for money after he stupidly spends his own on things he really doesn't need instead of putting food and the essentials first.

As much as I do love to help the family when they need it, this is something he does often, and giving in to him and giving him the money only encourages him to do it more.

I made the mistake of telling a friend and they then felt envious I wasn't making an effort on them on things they felt I should be making.

I'm simply protective of being taken advantage of, just for my own sake. I don't want to have to justify myself, so I regret telling them. Now I keep it a secret.

With my best friend though, I'd share the fact that I received a raise just to celebrate with them. But not the salary details... and all that.

If your family as in your kids and your spouse, I feel it is important they know. But if it is the extended family, I don't think that information is necessary for them. There are certain information that extended family gets to know and it becomes a problem.
