Does homework benefit children?

Something I always remember very well when I was in school is how much homework I got each day. After spending all day at school, the one thing I wanted to do was be able to chill out at home and relax ready for the next day but I always found that I had homework to complete so that was never a possibility.

Nowadays, with my kids having been and with two still being at school, I have noticed how much less homework they get now and how much free time they have after school which I find helps them a lot more.

Do you feel homework benefits children or does it just burn them out?

Of course yes, it's very important to give kids or in fact all students homework assignments to do everyday. It's something that's going to get them to study more about what they were taught in the school everyday and it's going to help improve their understanding on the subject. I would be pissed if my kid comes home from school without having any assignment given to him by his teachers to do.

I think having some homework helps kids understand the topics they're learning at school better. I don't think kids should have big assignments during long breaks though, I think spring break and other breaks should be just that, breaks with no homework assignments.

Homeworks are very good for all learners leave alone the school going kids. Homeworks gives the learner an avenue to be able to remember what was being taught in school. It gives the learner a sense of assessment of whether they understood what they learned at school.

This I am all for, my kids have three big breaks in a school year, that is Easter, Summer, and Christmas and they are never given any kind of homework during that break they are instead told to enjoy their break and they will see them back refreshed after the break.

I am all for little bits of homework myself say to see how much they remember from something they learned in school and that is occasionally what my children get but a lot of the time, they don't tend to get any at all and the school has openly said that they feel kids learn better if they get a break and do not get burn out which I agree with.

Many seem to think that their kids having a lot of work in school and then a ton of homework at home will help them succeed, it is very much the opposite as it can lead to burn out and them just not wanting to do it anymore and that can lead to failure instead.

Children as far as I am concerned are full time students. Not saying they shouldn't have leisure time but not all leisure after school. They should continue with school work. That's how they would be able to develop a studious attitude.

I'm all for homework but maybe it should be done in a study hall at school, but the homework should be average or difficult.

I remember being a kid and while learning was important, there were many other things and school took up a huge portion of the day

In the right amounts yes, always assigning homework just because can lead to no benefits.
