Agreed more checks and balances with more people involved in the process!
And that's not just for the police force, but also for other parts of the public sector too.

The BBC has obtained a confidential report - produced by Doncaster Council - which reveals how vulnerable young adults were abused in a Hesley home in 2010 - eight years before assaults are documented to have begun at the children's homes.

The council report - prompted by safeguarding concerns - details 99 cases of abuse it regarded as "proven" involving young people aged 18 and over who have a range of complex needs.

These included physical assaults, peer-on-peer abuse and neglect.

A number of failings, such as staff sleeping on duty and residents being found in soiled clothing, mirror later neglect reported in Hesley's children's homes.
  • Staff members accused of assault were able to leave Hesley and work for different companies after the homes closed
  • Hesley failed to immediately refer some staff to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) after abuse reports - while others didn't have criminal checks verified for months after beginning work
  • Vulnerable young adults were found to have faced physical and psychological abuse at its Hesley Village and College, according to a leaked 2010 Doncaster Council investigation
  • Hesley's accounts suggest the chief executive has received at least £5m since being made a director in 2006

Absolutely breaks my heart to see people that can't defend themselves be assaulted and abused in a care facility where they should be safe.
Very sad indeed.
There are also cases where social services have failed to respond appropriately.
It's sad that the public sector here can't be trusted :(

I haven't heard of any failings in the public sector in the USA, with the exception of racism?

Some nursing home facilities have bad reputations in the US, particularly the state funded facilities. It's really sad. My great aunt (RIP) passed away in one of those facilities suffering from very poor care.

I'm very sorry to hear that, it's so tough knowing that something could have been prevented :( I hope this conversation is not triggering you, my lovely x

You're so sweet 😇 ....I'm okay....it was very tragic what happened to my Aunt. She had dementia too, which didn't help. She couldn't speak up for herself.

@Web Diva sorry to hear about your aunt. My grandmother passed in a nursing home. She was to come home for the day that weekend. The place she was in wasn't the best. I wasn't the one that put her there.

So many bad places that just don't care about the elderly.

Thank you @fords8. :( I'm very sorry to hear you lost your precious grandmother. There are a lot of places to care for the elderly, but you really don't know how they mistreat the elderly until sometimes when it's too late. My mom is very concerned about being in a facility one day. We've done everything we could so far to make sure she's still in her own home and independent. Those days are drawing near for some decisions though.
@Web Diva @fords8 this is all so sad :(

It is sad,:( but I still try to find good in humanity where I can and sometimes surprises happen in the most unlikely places. :)

Ofsted was warned on more than 100 occasions about incidents at children's homes whose residents faced "horrific" abuse, a report has revealed.

The negligence of Ofsted
BBC News revealed children were reportedly punched, kicked and fed chillies at homes Ofsted rated "good".
BBC News also revealed Ofsted had been warned at least 40 times about incidents - its chief inspector told us she was "deeply sorry" but blamed "a great failure of integrity" by Hesley managers to report abuse.

Review recommendations
The review also made recommendations about what changes should be made to better protect the 1,700 children with disabilities and complex health needs living in residential special schools registered as children's homes.

These include asking Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission - which regulates health settings - to jointly inspect sites, and the government to develop a strategy for workforce standards and training.

Dr Susan Tranter, who lead the review, said the abuse "could happen again" elsewhere without changes being made.

I wish the best of luck on the road to recovery for your mother.

Very sad. My son worked at a place to care for older people. He couldn't take it anymore. So he quit and reported some of the stuff he seen. Everything from not cleaning, feeding, and just everyday care. Even had one person not giving meds to someone. And taken the meds themself. Crazy to think these type of things go on.

Thank you. She meant so much to me. If I was older at the time, things would have been different for her.

Oh gosh, so the UK isn't the only place where it happens :(
That's disgusting behaviour - stealing meds.
Is there a shortage of staff in the US too?

These cases are rapidly increasingly of late. I really don't have any idea why people should loose their lives in the safer hands
Staff shortages, excessive workloads, staff covering up their mishaps, staff being negligent, staff being abusive. Sad part of life :(

I agree with you on that issue. The governments/ relevant authorities must work on the above points to fix this illness in the health facilities
And they've been saying that for how long???

That must have been very difficult for your son, but how proud you must be for his integrity. It's such a terrible injustice to see people of any age mistreated, but it makes me crazy when the harm comes to the people that have so little voice and can't speak out because of their age and medical conditions such as dementia. Appalling that the employees were taking the nursing home people's med's too!

There are things I wish I could have done differently with my Nana too. I get that struggle. My last memory with her before she became ill was working on a craft project with her. This was an enormous wreath I was entwining silk flowers on and several Victorian decorations. To this day, I still have the wreath and her memory of being with her.
