As it stands, in most parts of the world, voting is optional. And in some countries, it is always reported that voters turnout is quite low, always hovering around 40% to 50% of eligible voters turning out.
Should voting be made mandatory for all persons and sanctions taken against those who would refuse to vote?
Voting should be something that people do by choice. It is a right as contained in the constitutions of many countries. People can decide not to exercise that right by not voting. The conversation should be why would people decide not to vote when it is a very vital process that affects their lives directly?
