Prescription drugs Vs Alternative Medicine: Which is more effective in the long run for healthcare?

I have heard people say that excessive intake of prescription drugs have a residual effects on the liver. While those on the other side of the divide argue that alternative medicine are not effective. That they are more preventative than therapeutic.

Which do you think is the safest for the long term between conventional prescription medicine and alternative medicine?

A lot of people prefer alternative medicines but we need to understand that most of the alternative medicines do not have enough proof, there have not been a lot of clinical trials, we do not know what could be the long term consequences of these medications.
