Cryptocurrency is the most known application of Block chain technology. But it's not the only application. Block chain is a decentralised ledger system. It can accommodate huge transactions and is even able to trace it back accurately. It is believed to bring a revolution in businesses in coming future making the transactions more transparent and accurate.

I have always attached cryptocurrency to block chain alone and never thought of other areas where it should be needed. I will have to research more with the eye opener that this thread made me to see.

You cannot separate cryptocurrency from Blockchain technology. It's what cryptocurrency is built on and every cryptocurrency transactions is found on the blockchain technology.
Actually many laymen people like me associate Block chain technology only with cryptocurrency. I too thought that it's the only application of Block chain technology. But then I saw my husband who works for a financial institution doing a training on the same technology. It seems that financial institutions see it as a revolutionary technology that would make transactions more transparent and easier to track back.
