Cell Phones While Driving

The first rant on the site is going to be about driving and using a cell phone. Are people that cell phone needy they have to use it while driving? It is crazy to me to think that email or text is more important than your life. If you don't hurt or kill yourself, you could hurt or kill someone else. Or get a ticket for it. I just don't get it.

Short but to the point I think.
 
I completely agree with you 100%! Your life and the lives of others come before any phone call or text, I feel that every driver should tell their friends and family whenever they get ready to hit the road. This way, hopefully they won't try to call or text them.

Just reading this now got me thinking about how the brain is basically hijacked by social medias arousal of the emotional reward mechanism.

i'm wondering if it's what elicits an illogical reactivity that manifests as somehow rationalizing urgency for engagement with social media - whilst driving.

Whatever the case, i'm guilty of having glanced at my phone while driving—though f##ked if i'd actually try texting or emailing, that's crazy dangerous.

I'm actually going to agree with you here, i think drivers have such urgency to engage, or take a photo for their god dam instagram while driving or answer a snapchat...

But, with that said don't people think about how this is going to affect others on road? so many deaths on the road there needs to be stricter rules

Yeah you've presented valid points there mate.
i do agree for the most part too, or more accurately—i don't disagree at all, although am very skeptical (*not of your meaning here*) of any potential outcomes efficacy resulting from additionally imposed restrictions.

Simple because by imposing stricter rules for something like this, it essentially means punishing everyone for the dereliction of personal responsibilities by some.

Basically everyone is then held as accountable.

Though this obviously isn't meaning with regard to individual situations where set rules have been disregarded and an offender is penalized accordingly.

Yet i think we may risk exacerbating institutional corruption if we impose stricter blanket rules and thus also potentially translating to distorted manifestations of injustices with individual penalty situations—whether initially legitimate or otherwise.

Just my subjective opinion here, i reckon stricter rules may be more detrimental than beneficial because by doing so necessitates surrendering personal rights & responsibilities in exchange for granting greater corporate institutional control & legal authority—while entirely ignoring that the tragic real-world affects are caused by a minority of irresponsible individuals within a collective of generally responsible individuals.

Meaning, (imo) that if any solution is to be found,...it will only be from exploring solutions for increasing overall populations composite individuals fundamental acknowledgement for their personal responsibilities.

i do wonder whether people who've experienced vehicular loss of control/impact events—subsequently become more or less(or neither way) inclined towards unnecessary risk taking whilst driving.

i've experienced a few(none my fault) and i do think these have influenced me such that i'm generally highly vigilant and cautious while driving any vehicle.

Prior to my experiences in car wrecks i simply lacked any true comprehension for such, therefore i just did not ever think of potential horrific outcomes. These potentials real-world physical affects basically did not yet conceptually exist within my consciousness, although i was vaguely aware of traffic accidents—yet essentially only insofar as a something like an event in a movie.

I appreciate your opinon, you raised some good points thats for sure.

but i feel there is laws for using your mobile while driving, but i feel that it could be stricter. i have lost many friends, and seem car accidents which involved the other driver texting, or talking with their phone against their ear and all they got was a fine and taken to court... and they can't drive for a couple of months?

now i don't agree with that, if you were doing something like driving and talking, or texting you shouldn't be able to drive, or you should have to start learning to drive again to ensure you have learnt your lesson...

So would i be correctly interpreting that by - stricter - is meant in terms of legally enforced consequences as opposed to what i had originally concluded from your previous post as meaning to pile on more rules to those already established aye?

Coz if so, then, i absolutely agree with increasing enforceable consequences.

Yet this alone still won't address the core of the problem.

Sure you too would have witnessed law enforcement agents driving while using their phones for texting/talking.

Some might argue that a law enforcement agent is inherently more responsible and therefore will no doubt have a justified reason for disregarding a law which applies to everyone (including agents) and of which the agent is invested by the principle authority to act as enforcement thereof.

Wait, what?

Basically i'm suggesting(*as well as highlighting) that unless we address the modern-species wide proliferation of increasingly normalized individual development dereliction, we'll inevitably end up creating minimal real-world resolutions and far greater social detriment—including a gigantic tangled mess of legalistic red tape.

What i mean, simply, is we can continue patching up the social cracks with plaster, yet it'll never resolve the unstable foundational problems which will always enable cracks no matter how much patchwork is applied.

Either way, i still agree with you that the consequences of causing harm to others certainly should be much more severe—yet also enforced equally upon all members of society—especially the enforcers & the law makers.

yeah, i have had that argument before (regarding law enforcement) as well, i do not agree with that at all.

Aren't they leading by example?

This does annoy me when people feel they need to be on their phones when driving. It's against the law in so many places but so many still do it because they get away with it and it is not enforced enough. There have been a few times when I have been out walking and I have seen someone on their phone either texting or checking something.

It does need to be enforced more before things get out of hand.

I dislike people who use cell phones while driving. A small distraction can cause a big accident, which might not only injure or kill the driver but also other people (in your car or another car). If you get injured or killed, it's your fault but why should other people get injured or killed without doping anything wrong.

I would be mad to use my smartphone when I'm driving. It's in sane how some people do it freely and that's capable of causing fatal accidents. I don't touch my phone when I'm driving. If it's an important call that I'm expecting, I will park, out my hand break on and take the call.
 
I agree that cell phones and driving are a bad combo! I saw someone texting as he was making a left hand turn yesterday and it made me mad. He wasn't paying attention and could have hurt someone, even at the speed he was going. Pay attention. Get off your phones! You aren't that important.
